About this click counter

This click counter is a tally counter in your browser: every tap, click or press of the space bar adds one, and the big number shows where you are. You can take one back if you counted twice, set a number to stop at, and keep several counters side by side, one for each thing you count. Your counts are written down in this browser at every click, so you can close the page and carry on later from the same number. It is free, needs no account, and nothing you count is sent anywhere.

How the counter works

  1. Press Start. The counting area fills the screen.
  2. Tap or click anywhere in it, or press the space bar, to add one.
  3. Counted one too many? Press Take one back, or the Backspace key.
  4. Press Stop when you are done. The number is kept for next time.

What can you count with it?

Anything you would count on your fingers or with a mechanical clicker: people coming through a door, laps of a track, repetitions of an exercise, rows knitted, cars passing, votes by a show of hands, points in a game, or how often something happens in a day. Because the count stays put between visits, you can also keep a running total over a week, such as glasses of water or pages read.

There is no good or bad number here: a counter only counts. That is why this page sets your result beside nothing. Under How we counted you see where the session started and ended, how many you added and took back, and, if you started from zero and set a number to stop at, how long it took to get there.

How it keeps your counts

Your counters are kept in this browser's own storage, each with its number and, if you set one, the number it stops at. Nothing leaves your device: the counts are not in the address of the page, not in any request, and not sent to us. If you clear this browser's data, or use a private window, the counts are gone, so write down a number you cannot lose.

Every finished session is also saved as a result in this browser, like the results of the tests on this site. You can read about us to see who makes the site.

Counting quickly and without mistakes

  • On a phone, tap with your thumb near the middle of the screen: the whole area counts, so you do not need to look.
  • On a computer, the space bar is the easiest key to hit without looking; Enter works too.
  • If two things happen at once, tap twice: each tap is one, however close together they are.
  • Count each kind of thing on its own counter, for example arrivals on counter one and departures on counter two, and read the difference at the end.

Several counters

Under More options you can add a counter, switch between counters and set the one in use back to zero. Each counter keeps its own number and its own number to stop at. Switching does not change any count: it only chooses which one your next taps go to.

Questions

Is the click counter free?

Yes. There is no account and no sign-up, and your counts stay in this browser, where nobody else can see them.

Will my count still be there tomorrow?

Yes, in the same browser on the same device, unless you clear the browser's data or use a private window. The count is written down after every click.

How do I take back a click I made by mistake?

Press Take one back on the counting screen, or the Backspace key or the minus key. The count never goes below zero.

Can I count with the keyboard?

Yes. The space bar and Enter add one, Backspace and minus take one back, and Escape stops. A key held down counts once.
